Council Appoints Ray as Attorney

The City of Greenville has a new City Attorney. The Greenville City Council Tuesday voted to accept the resignation of Brent A. Money and to appoint Daniel Ray as City Attorney.

GREENVILLE - Before the vote, Council member Dan Perkins took an opportunity to thank Money for his efforts.

Money left the Council chambers after the unanimous vote without making a statement. The acceptance of the resignation was postponed by a couple of weeks. The Council was scheduled to meet concerning the resignation in a special December 21 session. Mayor Steve Reid called off the meeting, indicating the Council needed additional time before making a decision.

Money was named City Attorney in January 2008,  after Robert L. Scott turned in his resignation.

Money had been filling in as City Attorney since the summer of 2007.Ray, who works in the same law firm with Money and Scott, was hired as the Assistant City Attorney at that time.

Last month, the Council hired Scott as a special counsel to represent the City of Greenville on all matters relating to L-3 Communications Integrated Systems.
