Rachel's Challenge creating a better environment for students

Wylie ISD

After the shooting at Columbine High School in 1999, the Scott family has made it a priority to teach students about bullying and the effects that it can have, and how to get rid of bullying in their schools. Darryl Scott, the founder of Rachel's Challenge, is the father of Rachel Scott, the 17 year-old girl who was the first to be killed at Columbine.

Rachel's Challenge can be found within many school districts, including Wylie High School. This week, we speak with Wylie principal - and former Commerce Principal - Virdie Montgomery to discuss what Rachel's Challenge is and why it is important for local schools on The Morning Bell.

Daniel was born and raised in Commerce, TX, and has been a life-long listener of 88.9 KETR. After listening to ‘The Art of Sound’ with Mark Chapman as a child, he enjoyed the thought of being able to broadcast across NE Texas. He is now a Radio/Television student at Texas A&M University-Commerce and hopes to continue his work in radio after he graduates. He has been heard in the past as the host of ‘All Things Considered’, ‘Movie Picks with Alice Reese’ and ‘The Morning Bell’.
