Resuming their positions on the Cooper Independent School District Board of Trustees will be Thomas Darden and Blake Randle for full three-year terms along with an unexpired term for Anita Moody. Challenging for a place was Laura Gillean receiving a total of 47 votes. Darden received 165, Randle had 169 and Moody with 168 with the majority of the votes being cast absentee. The votes were canvassed on Monday, May 19.
The Pecan Gap City Council consists of Mayor Warner Cheney, along with members John Moss, Jerry Park, Ed Pickard, Sharline Freeman and Dewey Marsh. Nelda Campbell is City Secretary.
According to the Sulphur Springs News-Telegram North Hopkins will also be constructing a new elementary wing on the existing district property, thanks to the $5 million bond proposal which passed last Saturday night. While only 124 votes were cast, nearly twice as many ballots were cast in favor of the bond. Voters cast 81 votes in favor of and 43 votes in opposition.
The $5 million bond will raise the tax rate to $1.2366 per $100 of property value, an increase of about 8.5 cents, according to the order of election signed by NHISD Board President Lori Timko.
