Warrior Run planned for April

The 3rd Annual Tanner Higgins Warrior Run is a benefit race set for April 11, 2015 at Cooper Lake State Park, South Sulphur Unit.

The Warrior Run was created to honor the memory of local hero, Sergeant Tanner Stone Higgins, 23, killed by enemy forces during combat operations in Afghanistan April 14, 2012.

The Tanner Higgins Military Memorial Fund is soon to be a 501 (C)3 non-profit organization. The mission is: “To serve men and women in uniform who serve their country and community.” It is dedicated to raising finds to offer financial and social support beyond what the government offers to men and women of service and their families.

Race day registration and packet pickup begin at 7 a.m. Opening ceremonies at 8:15 a.m. will be presented by the Hopkins County Military Coalition posting of colors. The 5-mile trail challenge and the one-mile grunt run begin at 8:30 a.m.

Early registration is $25 and can be done through Race Chip Timing at http://www.tannerstonehiggins.com/.

Rates for the 5-mile trail challenge increase March 16-31 to a cost of $35 and goes up to $45 April 1-10. Pre-registration will guarantee in event T-shirt and finisher bracelets for five mile participants only. Race day registration cost is $50 and does not guarantee a T-shirt or bracelet. The one mile grunt run is a set $25. EMT will be on site. Entertainment provided by Spur On Ministries.
