At approximately 9:20 a.m. Sunday morning the driver of a black sport utility vehicle apparently overcompensated and lost control on Farm to Market 1531 in Delta County striking a tree on the northbound shoulder.

Former Klondike volunteer fire fighter, Jackie Lee Mize, 46, had to be extricated from his vehicle by the Jaws of Life as his legs were pinned, according to the Delta County Sheriff’s office.

The vehicle’s dashboard was caved in leaving the driver with broken legs and broken arm.

Mize was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for care.
