As of Tuesday morning Delta County Sheriff Ricky Smith informs the citizens of Delta County he will be running for reelection.
“I would like to announce my intention to seek another term as the Delta County Sheriff,” stated Sheriff Ricky Smith. “I am very proud of the accomplishments of the Delta County Sheriff’s Office over the last two and one-half years; however, these accomplishments would not have been possible without the support of our community.”
Under his authority the department has made extensive repairs to the Jail, started a successful inmate work program and decreased staff turnover rate along with arresting over 36 suspected drug dealers since 2013.
Sheriff Smith said along with support from his wife, Pat, that he still hasn’t finished what he wanted to accomplish.
“My decision to run again is based entirely on my belief that there is more that needs to be done to make our community safer. If the citizens of Delta County choose to support my reelection effort I pledge to diligently attempt to make Delta County a safer community and one that all law-abiding citizens will be proud to live in,” said Sheriff Smith.
