Kim Saenz, the director of the Hunt Regional Emergency Care Center in Commerce, says the local hospital district is part of a nationwide trend of using paramedics to provide medical care for people in their homes, cutting down on visits to the emergency room and hospital stays. She says it's estimated the program reduced emergency room visits for people who are judged eligible for home care by 34% and hospital stays by 22%. And she says the estimated savings were $775,000.
