CISD Renews Teacher Contracts, Approves New Hires

Cooper ISD

The Cooper Independent School District Board of Trustees renewed all teachers’ contracts in last week’s meeting.

“We are thankful for a terrific faculty that keeps the focus on the learning needs of our students,” said Cooper ISD Superintendent Denicia Hohenberger, very excitedly.

She continued by reporting they also finalized hires to fill two recently vacated positions: Elementary Assistant Principal/Instructional Coach (from Mrs. Lynn Byrd's promotion to Principal) and High School Health Science Teacher (from Mrs. Katie Byrd's resignation for next year due to family move).

She was also happy to announce that Mrs. Katie Bassham has been hired for our elementary Assistant Principal/Instructional Coach position.

“Katie has a Teacher Leadership degree with a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. Her experience includes elementary and junior high mathematics and English/language arts instruction as well as instructional leadership in a neighboring district,” said Superintendent Hohenberger. “We're looking forward to her leadership!”

She went on to announce Jana Shaw Crews has been hired as instructor for the health sciences program.

“Jana comes with a wealth of medical field knowledge and experience that will greatly benefit our students. She will also do a great job continuing our Health Science tradition of providing instruction to students in five area school districts,” she said. “We are excited to find such great candidates for our school team!”

The Board of Trustees unanimously voted to nominate Superintendent Denicia Hohenberger for TASB Superintendent of the Year.

The Board of Trustees, accepted a $5,567.66 donations from Houghton – Mifflin to the Elementary campus to be utilized for summer staff development.

Following the regular business a facilities walk through tour was conducted – noting possible repairs to the baseball field. This meeting also included a discussion on the Ag Building Project.

With all Board of Trustees present the consent agenda was approved. No guests approached the Board.

The CISD Board of Trustees will meet again on Monday, May 16 at 6 p.m.
