Delta County Proclaims National Service Recognition Day

Delta County proclaimed April 3, 2018 as National Service Recognition Day. Present for the announcement made before Commissioners Court Monday morning were several volunteers of Red River Valley Retired and Senior Volunteer Program including Jacel Angel, RSVP Field Coordinator, Kelly Hamill, RSVP Coordinator, and Laura Gillean, Patricia Smith, Lynne Morris with the Delta Hope House along with Delta County Judge Jason Murray and City of Cooper Mayor Darren Braddy, who is also a Delta Hope House volunteer.

In other business, Delta County Emergency Management Coordinator Monty Hobbs informed the Court of the award administrative services for the TxCDBG Disaster Grant of $23,000. He noted this was not a matching grant.

Delta County Sheriff Ricky Smith said he currently has nine inmates and would be temporarily have an inmate work crew. He extended appreciation to Berger in Birthright for providing compost for the garden at the jail. Sheriff Smith said the inmates will be growing tomatoes, okra, peas, carrots, and onions.

Judge Murray reminded the public the County Clean Up week will be May 25 through June 4, 2018. Dumpsters will be available at all the precinct barns.

The next Commissioners Court will be held on Monday, April 9, 2018 at 9 a.m. on the third floor of the courthouse.
