President Trump’s nominee to replace Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy will need to go through a confirmation process in the Senate. But that’s not stopping those at the House level from giving their opinions on Judge Brett Kavanaugh.
Below are the statements from incumbent Republican John Ratcliffe and Democrat challenger Catherine Krantz.
John Ratcliffe:
“I could not be more pleased with President Trump’s nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States. Judge Kavanaugh’s extensive legal experience, including his service as a federal appellate judge on the D.C. Circuit Court, qualifies him as an excellent candidate for this important position that will have a lasting impact on our country. His longstanding and unwavering commitment to upholding justice makes me confident that Judge Kavanaugh will work diligently to uphold the Constitution as a Justice on the highest court of the land. I urge my Senate colleagues to move swiftly on his confirmation and stand strong to delay this process.”
Catherine Krantz:
"I find it incredibly disheartening that our judicial process and the highest court in the land is being so blatantly hijacked by partisan politics. This is exactly why we need a clean sweep in November, so logic and common sense can prevail and Democracy can return to serving the common good. Does anyone really believe these nominees are being selected because they serve the best interests of the American people? Once upon a time Supreme Court nominees received wide bi-partisan support because we all had an expectation of fairness in our justice system. We have reached a true cynical low in American politics and it is no wonder that voter turnout is so low, given the antics our elected officials resort to. There are so many things that concern me about this nomination, but the greatest concern is the mockery of government that these constant sideshows bring. The constant playing games with people’s lives, the throwing our entire country under the bus for special interests and the blatant disregard for consensus is creating a hopelessly ineffective government. We all need to snap out of it and vote in November for government that governs. Time to sweep the house clean and bring in real people who are interested in solving real problems."
