LaVelle Hendricks reflects on the upcoming Juneteenth holiday, with observancesSaturday in Greenville, Sulphur Springs and Paris.  Each city is hosting a parade or other celebration beginning at 11 a.m.  LaVelle is pastor of the New Caney Baptist Church and Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Commerce.  In his capacity as professor of counseling at Texas A&M-Commerce, Dr. Hendricks comments on the 50th anniversary of the "War on Drugs," which an ACLU survey says is now seen as a failure by a large majority of Americans.  But he does not believe posession and sale of addictive drugs should be decriminalized, and favors more treatment programs.

John Mark Dempsey is the host of the public interest program The Blacklands Café from KETR News. Dempsey is also the play-by-play announcer for Commerce Tigers Football on 88.9 FM and on ketr.org.
