After nearly two weeks of West Delta Water Supply Corporation's water supply having high nitrite levels, they are now able to say that the water is now safe to drink.
The West Delta Water Supply Corporation has issued a mandatory public notice regarding the public water supply, required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has notified the WEST DELTA WSC that the drinking water being supplied to customers is no longer exceeding the Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) for Nitrite. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) has established the MCL for Nitrite at 1 milligrams per liter (mg/L). A repeat sample was taken at the City of Commerce on December 10th, 2012 and analysis indicates a Nitrite level below the MCL of 1 mg/L. Also a sample was taken December 10th, 2012 at EP001 for West Delta WSC and analysis indicates a Nitrite level of less than 0.004 mg/L. There is still no word on whether or not Commerce water supply is back to safe drinking levels.
