Wood County Sets Burn Ban

Texas A&M Forest Service

Wood County has joined the list of counties in Northeast Texas to declare a burn ban. The commissioner’s court announced the ban Thursday. The Wood County ban now leaves Hopkins, Lamar, and Delta counties the only three left in the KETR listening area without a ban in place.

Titus, Bowie, and Cass counties also don’t have bans. They are the only six counties in the northeastern corner of Texas not to have a ban in effect. Only 77 of Texas’ 254 counties do not have a ban in place.

Fire officials in counties without a ban continue to urge residents not to burn outside. They also ask residents to be careful of anything that might spark a grassfire. Anything from a cigarette to chains dragging behind a truck could set one off.
