Sept. 27 Morning Newscast

  • COVID-19 cases are on the rise in Hunt County, but holding steady in Hopkins County, according to numbers from the Texas Dept. of State Health Services.
  • The Hunt Memorial Hospital District Board of Directors is expected to name a replacement for retiring CEO Richard Carter on Tuesday. Carter is scheduled to retire in December.
  • The Hunt County Commissioners Court is expected to approve Tuesday a significant increase for the county’s volunteer fire departments – about twice the amount of previous allocations.
  • Texas A&M University-Commerce athletics are expected to move to the Southland Conference of NCAA Division 1 Football Championship Series classification. Several reports of the move were published Friday evening. The university has not confirmed, but news conferences are scheduled for Tuesday.

Dr. John Mark Dempsey is an associate professor of radio-television at A&M-Commerce, part of the department of Literature and Languages. He works part-time as a news announcer-producer for the Texas State Network in Dallas. Dr. Dempsey was the first student to broadcast on KETR back in 1975 and was also the first person to broadcast Commerce Tigers football on the station (as a student.)
