The Daily Beast reports a former Cooper resident, Patrick Taylor, has filed a federal lawsuit against the Delta County Sheriff's Office alleging that former Sheriff Ricky Smith and other officials knowingly employed an uncertified officer, Zachary Williamson, on staff, and conspired to conceal Williamson's ineligibility.

  • An Oct. 28 article in The Daily Beast reports a federal lawsuit has been filed by former Cooper resident Patrick Taylor against the Delta County Sheriff's Office.
  • The suit alleges former Delta County Sheriff Ricky Smith and other officials, including County Judge Jason Murray and County Attorney Jay Garrett knowingly hired an uncertified peace officer, Zachary Williamson, and conspired to conceal his ineligibility.
  • Taylor was arrested by Williamson in October 2019 and charged with DWI. The charge was later dropped.
  • Texas A&M University-Commerce and Paris Junior College have signed an agreement facilitating the transfer of students from PJC to A&M-Commerce.
  • In Rains County, FM 275 will undergo major improvements, beginning Nov. 1.
