Lions Struggle Against Midwestern State in First Loss

Kyle Hall

Midwestern State gave the Lions all they could handle Saturday night in Wichita Falls. Despite their best efforts for a fourth quarter rally, the Mustangs handed the Lions their first loss of the season, 47-42.

Both teams started off slow in the first half, going 4 for 17 in third down completions; Lions were 1 for 7.

MSU eventually picked up momentum and got on the board first missing the point after, 6-0. They followed it up with a 4th down gamble that paid off with 11 minutes left in the first half, putting them up 13-0.

The Lions offense finally clicked in the second quarter when EJ Thompson scored a 1-yd touchdown. TAMUC’s last series of the first half saw Buck Wilson score a 20-yd touchdown with 30 secs left, 27-14.

The Mustangs came out strong in the first half scoring on the Lions first possession, leading to a 48-yd fumble touchdown, 34-14. The Lions fought the second half to rally thanks to a 15-yd rushing touchdown by Reggie Kincade, 47-42.

Despite an onside kick recovery in the fourth quarter by Kristov Martinez, it wasn’t enough to stage a comeback for the Lions. TAMUC still leads the series 12-11.
