Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp announced today that the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents has named Mark Rudin as the sole finalist for the position of President of Texas A&M University-Commerce. Rudin was selected during a telephonic meeting of the Board of Regents.

Texas A&M University-Commerce play-by-play announcer Charlie Chitwood has been named the winner of the Jake Trussell Award for the Lone Star Conference's Sportscaster of the Year, as announced Tuesday at the LSC's annual football media day.

Fifteen students representing the A&M-Commerce student newspaper, The East Texan, won ten on-site contest awards at the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association (TIPA) Conference, which took place in Dallas on March 21-24. The ten awards were a program best and the contestants finished the conference with second place in their division for ‘Best of Show.’

  Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp announced Monday, February 5, that a 13-member committee has been created to conduct a national search for the next President of Texas A&M University-Commerce.

The committee includes two members of The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents and representation from the faculty, students and administrators at A&M-Commerce, as well as several community leaders from the region.

The Greenville Police Department has issued the following information this morning concerning a sex offense reported near a local elementary school:

West Nile Virus can be spread to humans by infected mosquitoes.

The City of Commerce along with the assistance of Texas A&M University-Commerce recently tested mosquitoes for various diseases by collecting and sending samples to the Department of State Health Services for analysis.  On July 28th, 2017 Emergency Management Officials were notified of a positive test for the West Nile Virus. The location of the positive test was near the City Park on Pecan Street.

John Sharp, Chancellor of The Texas A&M University System, announced today that Dr. Ray M.  Keck has been appointed Interim President at Texas A&M University-Commerce. Keck succeeds Dr. Dan Jones, who served as President at A&M-Commerce from 2008 until he passed away April 29.

Since 2001, Dr. Keck has served as the fifth president of Texas A&M International University in Laredo, where he worked closely with Dr. Jones, who served as provost from 2003 until his presidential appointment at Commerce.

The PTAA campus will be located at 8501 Jack Finney Boulevard and 308 Aerobic Lane, in buildings previously used by the Phoenix Charter School, which closed earlier this year.

The Texas Education Agency will host an information session for parents of students currently attending Phoenix Charter School in Greenville, which is slated for closure at the end of the current school year.

The session will take place Thursday at 5:30 p.m. on the school campus at 8501 Jack Finney Boulevard in Greenville.

The Greenville Police Department released a statement on Nov. 15 concerning the investigation into the murder of Eddie Caballero Lopez:

“In the early morning hours of Friday, November 14, 2014, Hunt County Sheriff’s Office SWAT, DPS SWAT, and Greenville Police Department executed a search warrant in Wolfe City searching for Thomas Isaac Medlin, suspect in the murder of Eddie Caballero Lopez. Medlin was not at the location.

Two Commerce men have been arrested in connection with a robbery and kidnapping case from Friday, September 19, 2014.

On Monday, September 22,2014, investigators with the Commerce Police Department arrested two local men in connection with a robbery and kidnapping case where a Commerce man was approached by two men at gunpoint.  He was subsequently taken to an ATM on the campus of Texas A&M University-Commerce to withdraw money out of it.

Three men have been arrested and charged in connection to a string of burglaries.

On the morning of Tuesday, August 26th, 2014, at around 4:30 am, the Commerce Police Department received a telephone call from a witness that saw two men trying to break into his vehicle on Sterling Hart Drive.  Officers were provided with a thorough description of the suspect’s vehicle as it left the scene. Officers found the suspect’s vehicle near the location of the attempted burglary.

A 31 year old Commerce resident faces charges of Possession or Promotion of Child Pornography.

About 3 weeks ago, the Commerce Criminal Investigations Division received information from the Hopkins County Sheriff's Office, about an individual in the City of Commerce downloading and distributing child pornography.  The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office has been working in conjunction with the ICAC (Internet crimes against children) Task Force and the Commerce Police Department on these types of cases.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has notified the North Hunt Special Utility District water system that the drinking water being supplied to customers had exceeded the Maximum Containment Level (MCL) for nitrite.

23 defendants have been taken into custody and are facing charges ranging from Manufacturing and Delivery of Marijuana, Manufacturing and Delivery of a Controlled Substance and Fire Arm Smuggling.

On Thursday, Mar. 6. shortly before 6 a.m., through a combined law enforcement effort, officers from the Commerce Police Department, Texas A&M Police Department, Hunt and Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office and the Sulphur Springs Police Department hit the streets in search of individuals wanted on charges of Manufacturing and Delivering of Narcotics and two for Fire Arm Smuggling.

The Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS’s) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) today announced a cooperative pilot project with National Public Radio’s (NPR’s) technology research and development group, NPR Labs, to demonstrate the delivery of the first-ever, real-time emergency alert messages to people who are deaf or hard-of-hearing in five Gulf states.
