Plan in the works to keep iconic business open

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – Officials with Mary of Puddin Hill in Greenville are trying to put together a plan to keep the company operating past the end of the week.

Options include keeping the company as a catalog-only business or seeking funds to remodel and upgrade Mary of Puddin Hill's kitchen and retail operations.

Bill Harris, of Welsh Harris Capitol, says he has an inch-high stack of supportive emails the company has received since announcing plans to close the store on Saturday.

The City of Greenville has also learned that the Corsicana-based Collin Street Bakery may come to town, a company that sells similar treats. However, Harris says Mary of Puddin Hill has between $1-4 million in annual revenue from its mail-in business, and has a mailing list with approximately 400,000 customers.
