Produce Trade Enlivens Craven's Corner

By Fred Tarpley

Cumby, TX – Daily arrivals of seasonal produce at Rockin' H Gardens at the Craven's Corner turnoff to Cumby two miles east of Commerce are attracting shoppers seeking the region's finest fruits and vegetables as they come off the vine. David and Tammie Hughes have just stocked their first Pittsburg peaches and plums of the season. Cumby tomatoes are expected on their shelves into another two weeks.

The concept of featuring the finest area produce supplemented by apples and citrus fruit from the Dallas farmers market has become popular with consumers across Northeast Texas who anticipate the arrival of fresh crops. The Hughes expect delivery of Hunt County blackberries and blueberries within the next two weeks. Hopkins County green beans and snap green beans arrived on Memorial Day, fresh from vines within a miles of the produce shop.

With shop hours from 11 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Rockin' H Gardens will be adding fireworks to their stock and remaining open on Sunday, July 3 and the other sales days for pyrotechnics. Information about produce arrivals is available at 903-217-6035.
