Alice Finishes The Hunger Games

This week on Movie Picks, Alice reviews The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2, Brooklyn, and Trumbo.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 is the final installment in the series, and the epic conclusion of Katniss Everdeen's heroic rebellion. Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth star as Katniss, Peeta, and Gale again, with Julianne Moore, Woody Harrelson, and Donald Sutherland reprising their roles as well. Alice really enjoyed this ending, and believes Lawrence is a main reason this story has become so huge.

Brooklyn is based on the novel of the same name by Colm Tóibín, the screenplay was written by Nick Hornby, and was directed by John Crowley. Saoirse Ronan stars as Eilis, a young female Irish immigrant new to the U.S. Julie Walters, Emory Cohen, and Domhnall Gleason fill out the cast of this film that Alice thinks will be mentioned in Oscar season.

Trumbo stars Bryan Cranston as the title character of Dalton Trumbo, a prolific Hollywood screenwriter who was jailed and blacklisted, but still managed to get his movies out in the world. Alice thought Cranston was terrific as this intensely interesting man who has to let other people, real and imaginary, take credit for his work. John Goodman, Stephen Root, Diane Lane, and Helen Mirren are all in the cast as well as a few other notable actors. Alice highly recommends this movie.
