New Commerce Middle School Would Replace Building More Than 50 Years Old

Commerce ISD Superintendent Charlie Alderman and School Board President Kathleen Hooten discuss the proposed bond issue on the Nov. 2 election ballot. The bond issue would provide, among other things, the construction of a new Commerce Middle School adjacent to Commerce High School. The superintendent notes that the existing middle school is the former Commerce High School building, constructed more than 50 years ago in 1968. He says the cost of renovation would be high because of the asbestos in the walls, and also there are structural problems with the building.
