Descending the stone steps of the Ladonia Fossil Park is like stepping back into another age. Stepping down into the mostly dry bed of the North Sulphur River, the ground is active territory for all manner of arrowheads, fossils, and interesting rocks.

In 1932 the Fannin County School Board consolidated the schools, along with Providence School and formed the Bartley-Woods School.

I played junior high football for the Fannindel schools in Ladonia. Our games routinely took us across all manner of country roads throughout Fannin County. One evening, as we travelled through the small city of Windom our coach/bus driver began telling us about the Bartley-Woods School. 

The Texas Water Development Board Monday announced more than $3 million in loans for drinking water system improvement to two areas of Northeast Texas.

The Texas Department of Public Safety has released the names of the two women killed in separate traffic accidents in Wood and Van Zandt counties Monday afternoon.

Seventy-two-year-old Barbara Fish of Yantis was killed in a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 154 near Farm-to-Market 515 in Wood County. Police say she failed to stop at the intersection and was struck by a vehicle heading westbound on FM 515.

The driver of the second vehicle, was hospitalized in stable condition.

The plan to build Lake Ralph Hall in southern Fannin County is mainly a response to the region's water needs. But there's an environmental aspect with its roots in the area's natural history.

Water service failed on Friday, when the pump broke in the town's only working well.

Eight candidates are running for three seats in Ladonia's race for alderman.

LADONIA - Kevin Mayberry, police chief for the City of Ladonia, is stepping down. A reception is planned for 7 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall.


LADONIA - The City of Ladonia will again spray for mosquitoes Thursday night, as they did on July 2. A commercial vehicle with a mounted fogger will disperse the material between 10:30 p.m. and 1 a.m.

LADONIA - Roughly 60 dogs were registered Saturday during a Responsible Pet Ownership Day event in downtown Ladonia.

Cause for Paws was on hand to provide low cost vaccines, microchips & heart worm testing. Additional booths for pet related venders and activities were also welcome to attend. Over 100 shots were administered.
