Commerce – Crews with Halff Engineering are in Commerce this month to begin work on a street indexing project approved by Council in December.
The study, in conjunction with a drainage study performed in 2009, will provide guidance in the priority process for future street renovations. The $44,500 project will take approximately 75 days to complete.
It's still unclear how the street improvements will be funded by the City. Still available is $3 million from a bond election passed in May, 2008, but additional funding will be needed.
Interim City Manager Marc Clayton hopes to have a viable street program in place within one to three years.
