Morgan Wood will be starting as the new Delta County Extension Agent.
Morgan Wood will be starting as the new Delta County Extension Agent.

Delta County AgriLife Extension office is filling the vacancy left by former agent Alford Echols. In Monday’s Commissioners Court meeting it was announced that Morgan Wood was hired for this position.

She is familiar with the Northeast Texas area as she has been interning in Rains County. She is from the small town of Alba and is a 2014 graduate of Alba-Golden CISD. She has attended Tyler Junior College and graduated from Texas A&M University in Commerce with a Bachelor of Agriculture Science and Technology. While attending the university she participated in sorority life and was on the Lions dance team. She loves raising cattle and going to livestock shows. She has showed in every major show in the state.

“I plan to use my relationships I have gathered in my participation in FFA, my internship, and the extension program to raise awareness for agriculture,” said Morgan Wood.

Some of her prize memories are when she earned her Lonestar FFA degree, she was crowned Polled Hereford Queen her senior year, winning Reserve Champion for her cow/calf pair, and being on the Dean’s List in college. Her family owns a farm, and she has been an FFA participant from 8th to 12th in school. During this time, she experienced various livestock from hogs to cattle. To her they are “just all big pets.”

She has been currently employed the last two years by Commercial Bank of Texas in Emory, Texas.

“I plan to strengthen the 4-H program with future membership drives and bring more informative programs to Delta County,” said Wood. She would like the public to know her door is always open, and she is willing to help.

Wood will take over the position on August 6, 2018.
