A chaotic couple of weeks in Sulphur Springs municipal government is expected to conclude on Friday with a special meeting of the city council. The city’s governing body is charged with the task of keeping municipal government functioning in the aftermath of four resignations from the seven-person Sulphur Springs city council.

The City of Greenville will not buy the 1.34-acre former supermarket site next to the municipal building. On Tuesday night the City Council voted the idea down, at least for now, but left the door slightly ajar for future consideration.

With early voting wrapped up for the 2017 City Election, of the 1,205 registered voters inside the City of Cooper limits only 108 had cast their early votes at the Cooper ISD administration building. In comparison there were 200 total votes in the last City election.

Election Day is this Saturday, May 6 at City Hall, located at 91 North Side Square in Cooper from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.Vying for the position of Mayor of Cooper will be Joseph Flanery, Amanda L’Esperance, Carl Reel, Darren Braddy and Galen Kimbrell (as listed on the ballot).

Last night in Paris, the city council voted not to send results of an investigation of the local Economic Development Corporation to the state Attorney General’s office and the state Comptroller’s office. The motion was introduced by former mayor and current councilmember Dr. A.J. Hashmi. KETR’s Mark Haslett spoke with Hashmi about last night’s vote.

City council election filing to begin

Filing begins this week for two seats on the Greenville City Council, which will be decided during this year’s municipal election.

Council places 3 and 4 will be on the ballot for the May 10 election. Filing for the election begins Wednesday and continues through February 25 at the City of Greenville Municipal Building, 2821 Washington Street.

 Jeff Dailey currently serves in Place 3, and Mayor Pro-Tem Velma Del Bosque-Hobdy serves in Place 4. Both are eligible to seek re-election to the council.

Council to continue L-3 lease discussions

The Greenville City Council is set Tuesday to once again at least discuss the status of the city’s lease with L-3 concerning property the defense contractor operates on at Majors Field Municipal Airport.
