Observatory Open House – April 28
Join us for a special evening under the stars at our Observatory Open House on Tuesday, April 28th, beginning at 8:30 p.m. The observatory will remain open until 10:30 p.m., giving you plenty of time to explore the night sky and experience astronomy up close.
The observatory is located approximately five miles south of Commerce.
Directions: Traveling south of Commerce on Highway 50, turn east on County Road 4208. The entrance to the Observatory is approximately half a mile on the left.
Whether you’re a seasoned stargazer or just curious about what's above us, this is a great opportunity to enjoy a guided look at celestial objects through powerful telescopes and learn from knowledgeable university staff.
Bring your curiosity, your sense of wonder, and enjoy a memorable night beneath the stars. We look forward to seeing you there!

Please monitor our website and our Facebook pageDress for the Evening: It cools quickly after sunset—layers are recommended for comfort.Telescopes in Action: Several 10-inch telescopes will be available for public use.Expert Guidance: University staff will be present to guide you through the night sky and answer your questions.Facilities Notice: Please note there are no water or restroom facilities at the observatory.
Parking is limited, so please be aware of vehicles coming and going, as we have excited little visitors. The drive into the parking area is a one-way drive. It is narrow and does not have room for passing vehicles. Please do not park on the drive beyond the gate before the parking lot. Additional parking is available on the paved County Road 4208 or in the parking area at the Observatory only.

The Lake Tawakoni Regional Chamber of Commerce invites the public to First Light Insights on the morning of Friday, May 1!
The event will have a casual and relaxing atmosphere to meet your host, learn about the LTRCC, and to mingle with others in the local community!
Bread of Life Food Pantry distributes free food to those in need. Family and Senior Commodity Boxes available at all distributions. Located at 301 Hwy 224, Commerce, TX. Most boxes consist of canned vegetables, rice, pasta, peanut butter, cereal, juice, and canned meat. We also offer frozen meat, bread and fresh produce when in stock. New clients bring a photo ID and proof of address. For example, current utility bill. Our distribution days are the first Friday after the first Wednesday 10:00am – 2:00pm for seniors 60 plus, and everyone younger from 12:00pm – 2:00pm and on the 3rd Wed of the month from 5:00pm – 8:00pm. We also offer Emergency Boxes to families who can’t wait for a distribution day. Volunteers and donations are always welcome. Thank you. This annual program celebrates Arbor Day with songs and stories about the importance of the environment, guest speakers from the Texas A&M Forest Service, and more. It's all happening in the Auditorium of Greenville High School.
Greenville TX is a participant in the "Tree City USA" program. Involved communities must meet four standards: a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program and an annual Arbor Day observance.
